SBI, a banking service firm in India, is a Public Sector Bank known for providing multiple services to businesses, individuals, and the government. The multiple services that SBI provides to its customers are insurance, mutual funds, and credit and debit cards. SBI also has a large network of branches, such as ATMs and BC outlets.
SBI UPI has become popular in recent times. In the year 2025, UPI transactions have become popular as they allow users to make quick, easy, and efficient money transfers to other bank accounts. SBI Bank accounts are permitted to link to UPI applications like BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, and PAYTM.
To link the SBI account to UPI, users are required to follow the steps below:
1: Download any UPI-enabled app
2: Verify the contact number & complete the process
3: Tap "Add Credit" or “Link Credit Card."
4: Opt for the “SBI” Card
5: Tap on the Credit card that needs to be linked.
6: Tap on “Confirm”
7: Generate a UPI PIN
8: To enable transactions, configure the UPI PIN.
The user is allowed to use their Aadhaar Card if no card is available. To use the Aadhaar Card to link an SBI Account to the UPI-enabled app, users are required to follow the steps below:
1: Log in to the UPI-enabled application
2: Tap on the Bank Account that is linked to the Aadhaar Card
3: Generate a UPI ID
4: Opt for “Aadhaar Based Verification”
5: Enter the Aadhaar Card Digits
6: Set up the UPI PIN
7: Enter the OTP sent to the registered contact number
8: Confirm the UPI PIN.
Users can use their Aadhaar number to make UPI transactions across different banking platforms without needing any specific payment Application.
There is another method of linking the SBI account to UPI besides via UPI-enabled apps. Users can now link their SBI account to UPI via the YONO SBI App or YFEI App.
To link the SBI account to the UPI app via the YONO SBI App, follow the following steps.
1: Log in to the YONO SBI App
2: Tap on “Collect”
3: Enter the payer’s information, such as Virtual Address
4: Fill in other payer’s information
5: Opt for a linked credit account
6: Tap on “Tick” to initiate the “collect” request
7: An SMS or a notification shall be then received on the payer's contact number.
8: On the payer's approval of the request, money will be credited to the account.
A user can enable or disable the link between the bank account and the UPI app, ok the UPI App.
The various UPI Applications available in India are PhonePe BHIM, Google Pay, and PAYTM. To link the SBI Bank account to each of these UPI applications are mentioned as follows:
1: Download and Open the PhonePe App
2: Tap on the “Profile” icon.
3: Click on “Payment Methods”
4: Select “Link Bank Account”
5: Tap on “Add Bank Account” And select State Bank of India (SBI)
6: PhonePe shall fetch the account details of the user.
7: Set a UPI PIN
8: Enter the last six digits of the SBI Debit card Number
9: Receive an OTP on the registered contact number of the user.
10: Enter the OTP received on the registered contact number and complete the linking process.
In order to set up a BHIM SBI Pay ID, the users are required to follow the steps below before linking the SBI Bank account to UPI:
1: The user is required to enter the virtual address, such as Name and email, and answer the "Secret Question."
2: Accept the “Terms & Conditions” by selecting the correct bank
3: Select the correct Bank Account and create a Password.
4: By entering the user's Debit Card Details, set up an “M-PIN” and confirm the OTP.
5: The user will receive a confirmation message on the registered user's Contact number.
To link the BHIM SBI PAY to UPI, follow the steps below:
1: Download and Open the BHIM SBI Pay Application
2: From the “Main Menu” Tap on “My Accounts”
3: Opt for the account required to link.
4: Tap on “Set As Default Account”
1: Download and Open the Google Pay Application
2: Go to the Profile Picture on the top right corner of the screen.
3: Tap on Pay and enter the valid amount.
4: Enter the UPI PIN and make the money transfer.
1: Download and Open the Paytm application
2: Click on the “Profile Picture” icon
3: Click on “UPI & Payment Settings”
4: Tap on “Add New Bank Account” and add the SBI account details to add the SBI Bank card.
5: Enter the required details carefully, such as the Account Number and the IFSC Code.
6: Verify the Bank Account and begin making payments.
The initial UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transaction for first-time users in the first 24 hours is RS 5,000. The daily limit post the 24 hour period increases to RS. 1 lakh daily. To increase the transaction limit from RS. 5,000 per day on UPI, users can follow the below-mentioned information:
1: To increase the limit after the first 24 hours, users are not required to take any action, as the limit automatically resets to RS. 1 lakh after the 24-hour period.
In order to increase the transaction limit further, post the 24 hours, users can follow the following information:
1: Utilize the SBI YONO App to set up a new UPI transaction limit.
2: The users also have an option to visit the nearest SBI Branch.
The UPI Transaction Limit is usually determined by NPCI, the National Payment Corporation of India, and Banks. Banks are permitted to increase the transaction limit based on the particular customer's risk profile. Restrictions are modified and reviewed periodically by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Other transactions include Capital Markets, Healthcare, Educational Institutions and Foreign Inward Remittances. The transaction limit for such Other transactions is as follows:
For capital markets, users can make transactions up to RS. 2 lakhs via the Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
For foreign inward remittances, users are permitted to make a maximum transaction of RS. 2 lakhs via the UPI app.
For Healthcare and educational institutions, users are permitted to receive RS. 5 lakhs per day.
A few points to consider before initiating a big money transaction or while working with this payment method are as follows:
1: Banks are permitted to change the transaction limit at any given point in time.
2: Customers are required to stay up to date with the rules and regulations set by the bank.
3: To help customers manage their UPI Limits, SBI offers online and offline solutions.
4: Customers can also plan their transfers effectively by understanding the daily and monthly transaction limits and applicable charges.
While making payments via UPI, debited from the Bank Account, is quick and efficient, a few limitations are required to be noticed by users making payments for the first time via the Unified Payments Interface Application, and they are:
1: Users can make 20 payment transactions per day on UPI applications such as Google Pay. If the daily limit is crossed, the user must wait up to 24 hours to initiate the next transaction.
2: On applications such as Google Pay, the first transaction made by a New User must be of at least RS. 50.
3: The daily limit and the limit Per transaction usually vary from Bank to Bank.
4: The users are not offered a UPI transaction limit on a monthly or yearly basis.
5: Transaction limits are subject to change.
In today's world, digital payments have reached the citizens of the country, helping them make important payments on time and efficiently using online payment network apps. Apps like PhonePe, PAYTM, Google Pay, and BHIM are known to help link any RuPay Bank account to UPI to generate a UPI ID and a UPI PIN. The UPI pin is sensitive information and must not be shared with anybody. The following steps must be followed to link any bank account to UPI.
1: Download the UPI app and keep the bank card details in hand.
2: Create a profile on the UPI application.
3: Click on “ Add, Link or Manage Bank Account”.

A UPI PIN consists of a four-to six-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) that must be used to authorize a payment. Customers can download the UPI from their respective banks or a trusted UPI app such as PhonePe, BHIM, PAYTM, or Google Pay from the App Store or Play Store.
A feature in the Unified Payments Interface, UPI Applications, that allows users to make payments without needing a UPI PIN for transactions only up to a certain amount, is known as the UPI Lite. UPI Lite can be used on UPI applications such as Phonepe, Google Pay or GPay, and BHIM
Today, users have the freedom to utilize the UPI to deposit cash in the ATM without needing a physical debit card. A few more advantages of a UPI Lite are as follows:
1: For transactions up to RS. 500, users can make payments without the need for a UPI PIN.
2: Users can make multiple PIN-free transactions via UPI Lite of up to RS. 4,000 per day.
3: Users do not need an additional KYC to set up a UPI Lite Account.
4: All UPI Lite transactions are on the respective UPI app instead of the bank statements.
To use UPI Lite on any UPI Application, the users are required to follow the following steps:
1: Download and Open the UPI Application
2: Click on “Tap & Pay” on the home screen.
3: Select the UPI Tab
4: Enter the amount required to be paid.
5: Tap the sender’s smartphone on the receiver's NFC-enabled device.
6: Click on “AutoPay”.
The UPI Lite payment system feels like a digital credit card: no PIN is required to be entered, and the amount just swipes away by itself.
UPI apps are now among the most downloaded applications. Every second citizen either has a PhonePe app, a Google Pay App, or a BHIM app and has had their bank accounts linked to these applications. Linking Bank accounts to UPI apps is also known to be the easiest process for users to make instant, easy, and efficient money transfers.

In the UPI apps, there are features such as the UPI Lite, which helps users make a Pin-free transaction and multiple Pin-free transactions online. The best feature of the UPI Lite is that the user can use the UPI to deposit cash in the ATM without an actual debit card.
